A successful project execution phase rests squarely on a robust project plan and a realistic business case. It is in the execution phase that we see how well the project plan stands up against reality. The project management team must now use all their expertise to get the job done, manage deviations and changes, threats and opportunities, and meet stakeholder expectations. In addition, important project closing activities, such as performance evaluation and the documentation of both positive and negative experiences, must be carried out, so that lessons learned can help to make future projects even more successful.
This course provides an introduction to project execution and closing. Having completed the course, you will be familiar with:
- Key project management activities in the execution and closing phases
- How to get the execution phase underway
- How to follow up the progress of project work
- How to manage deviations and risks
- How to manage changes
- Status meetings and communication
- When and how to close the project
The course is based on the international project management standards “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge” from the Project Management Institute (USA), “Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2” from Axelos (UK) and ISO 21500 “Guidance on Project Management".
